IN MEMORIAM: Betty Mumbolo, 88;
Nurse’s Aide Active In Community
EDMESTON — Elizabeth G. “Betty” Mumbulo, 88, of Edmeston, a nurse’s aide and home-care nurse for many years, passed away Friday March 16, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born in Newark, between Syracuse and Rochester, on March 13, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Archibald and Zora Welch Caulder. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband William on Oct. 15, 2011.
Betty graduated from Edmeston Central School Class of 1948, and attended nurse’s training in Newark. She married the love of her life, William on Dec. 25, 1949, and raised a family on their dairy farm on New Berlin Road.
She was a nurse’s aide for many years at Chase Nursing Home, and also spent time as a private duty home-care nurse. Betty also worked in the shoe factory in New Berlin, Kraft, and Beeline Apparel in Edmeston.
Betty was proud of her Avon, Tupperware, and Stanley Home Products business’, as well as her Wharton Valley Grange membership, and leadership in the 4-H, Girl and Cub Scouts. She also raised dogs for Guiding Eye, and participated in Otsego County Foster care program sharing her home with children in need. Betty truly enjoyed the time spent with her many friends. She and Bill fondly remembered coffee, tea, board games, card games, and the laughs that came along with it. The memories will be cherished by all.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Edmeston for many years.
She is survived by her children, David (Rosemary) Mumbulo, Barton, Dennis (Donna) Mumbulo of Edmeston, Gordon Mumbulo of Sidney, Marcia (David) Crandall of Edmeston, and Marvin (Maryann) Mumbulo of Maryland, grandchildren Jessica, Jason (Tina), Ian (Jocelyn), Susan (Junior), James, Andy, Michelle (Carl), Gordon (Patience), Brian, Judy, Amanda (Jeff), Andrea (Mike), Alicia (Jim), Raushanna (Mason), and Marissa. Also surviving are many great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at the Delker & Terry Funeral Home 30 South St., Edmeston. Funeral services will be 10:45 a.m. Friday, March 23, at the Burlington Flats Baptist Church with Jeff McLallen officiating.
A reception will follow the services at the church. Interment will be in Edmeston Union Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edmeston Emergency Squad or the charity of your choice in memory of Betty.
