IN MEMORIAM: Carl Mondillo, 72;
Guitarist, Played Pool With The Best
ONEONTA – Carl Anthony Mondillo, 72, remembered by friends for his guitar-playing and pool-playing skills, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, with his loving wife, Sandra at his bedside.
Carl was the son of Tony and Pauline Mondillo of Schaffer Avenue. After graduating from high school in 1962, Carl joined the Army and was stationed in Germany.
He married Sandra Lehman of Lowville on July 20, 1974.
Carl and Sandy lived up and down the East Coast from Long Island to Florida, where he was manager for Texas Eastern Gas Companies.
After returning home to Oneonta, Carl worked many years in sales for local area businesses until his health forced him into retirement.
Carl was an avid pool player and participated in both professional and semi-professional tournaments where he was honored to play with some of the world’s best players.
Carl will also be remembered for his love of music and playing the guitar beginning with forming a band with his high school friends. They played at dances and local venues. Carl continued his love for music, playing with local friends and musicians until the time of his death.
Carl loved adventures, fishing and had a generous gift of giving to others. He will be remembered for his hearty laughter and gift of gab.
Carl is survived by his loving wife, Sandy of Oneonta; a sister, Shirley Stevens (B.C.) of Watertown; a sister Carolyn Halbert (Richard) of Sidney; sister-in-law, Jerrie Ann Brownell (Neil) of Syracuse; brother-in-law, Stanley Lehman (Sandra) of Lowville; sister-in-law, Katherine Irish of Rochester; brother-in-law, Timothy Lehman (Thomas) of Watertown; and brother-in-law, Thomas Lehman (Michelle) of Lowville; an aunt, Ann Oliver of Robynwood, Oneonta; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Thomas Irish.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Southside Wesleyan Church, 5300 Route 23, Oneonta, with Rev. Eric Santamont officiating. Friends are invited to greet the family beginning at 10:30 am at the church.
Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
