The Amateur 70 Mile Canoe Race continues to be one of the more popular among New York competitors and stages some of the new and prominent veteran paddlers. Unatego High School graduate Austin Henchey (Otego), known for his speed on the track, exhibited his speed on the water with a first-place finish in the Men’s Under 50 Amateur Endurance Race with partner Joseph Allison (Morris) for a time of 8:55:13 and a dominant 10-minute victory ahead of the second-place finisher.…
OTEGO—Gail Evelyn (Stimpson) Quick died peacefully with her family by her side on May 24, 2024 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, following a brief illness with cancer. She was born October 1, 1945 in Oneonta to Dorothy and Virgil Stimpson.
She graduated from Oneonta High School in 1963 and from SUNY Oneonta in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree. After teaching in New York and California, she worked as the director of the Delhi Campus Child Care Center for 16 years.…

OTEGO—Claude Robert Holbrook, “Bob”, “Eli”, “Mortimer”, passed away peacefully at his home and went to join his Lord and Savior Jesus on February 29, 2024.
Bob was born to Robert and Alta (Springett) Holbrook on December 17, 1938. He grew up in West Oneonta, New York. He operated a farm on the Baker Hill Family Homestead for many years.
