State Urges Horse Owners to Vaccinate

State Agriculture Commissioner Richard A. Ball urged New York horse owners to vaccinate their animals against Eastern Equine Encephalitis and West Nile Virus, both of which are spread by mosquitoes. This year, cases of EEE have been found in Clinton, Franklin, St. Lawrence, Washington, Madison, Oneida, Orange, Ulster, Cayuga and Wayne counties. There has been one confirmed equine case of WNV in Oswego County.…

Local Art for Sale at ‘Art in the Park’ on Sept. 8

Art in the Park is not intended as a craft show, organizers said, but will focus on showcasing two-dimensional pieces that include drawings, paintings, collage, printmaking, and photography. The event is free and open to the public, and features works by artists from West Winfield, Bridgewater, Unadilla Forks, Leonardsville, and West Edmeston, as well as localities and rural areas surrounding those communities.…

USDA Ready to Help New York Farmers Recover from Recent Disasters

“FSA offers a variety of disaster assistance programs to support farmers and ranchers through times of adversity,” said Jim Barber, state executive director for FSA in New York. “Many disaster programs have a 30-day window to report losses, so once producers are able to evaluate their losses, it is important to contact the local FSA office to report all damages and losses and learn more about how we can assist.”…
