The festivities for “Holidays in the Hamlet of Hartwick” begin on Friday, December 6 at 4 p.m. with two holiday artisan fairs and a slate of activities at Hartwick’s Kinney Memorial Library, leading up to Santa’s 6 p.m. arrival at Town Hall. Among the highlights on Saturday, December 7 are a visit from Santa at Creek Side Station via trolley at 11 a.m., horse-drawn winter wagon rides, and voting for the Hartwick Historical Society’s gingerbread house entries.…

The Annual Candle Lighting unites family and friends around the globe in a ceremony honoring children, grandchildren or siblings who have died from any cause, and transcends all ethnic, cultural, religious, and political boundaries. Beginning in New Zealand, candles are lit at 7 p.m. local time. From there, the worldwide ceremony produces a virtual 24-hour wave of light moving from one time zone to another.…

Discussion of the proposed Lakefront Park viewing platform project has been tabled for the time being, following Monday night’s informational meeting, led by Delta Engineer Director of Landscape Architecture Michael Haas, and the subsequent Village Board meeting. Haas reviewed plans for the platform, which was to be installed at the northern terminus of Pioneer Street, in Lakefront Park. The plans received push back from members of the public as well as some village trustees.…
The November 19 Oneonta Common Council meeting attracted about 25 concerned citizens, the equivalent of a full house. There were 20 motions on the agenda. The council debated various issues for more than four hours. Just before 10 p.m., the council approved the proposed 2025 budget and voted to exceed the tax cap. By this time, only three members of the audience remained. Two were city employees, Brian Knapp, the fire chief, and Chris Yacobucci, director of Public Works.…
