1980 SLAYING STILL UNSOLVED
Oneontan’s Mystery Death
Opens ‘Cold Case Tuesday’
ONEONTA – On Nov. 9, 1980, Barry G. Marquart, an Oneonta native, was found dead in the Chenango River with his watch and wallet missing and injuries to his head and face.
Now, State Police are looking for new leads in his case with their “Cold Case Tuesday” initiative, which seeks new leads on old cases through the department’s Facebook page.
Marquart is Troop C’s first entry since the program launched last month.
“They’ll rotate through the state so all the troops get a chance to put up a case,” said Nate Riegel, public relations officer. “It’s a way to get these cases back out there across new media.”
In addition to “Cold Case Tuesday,” the department has also launched “Wanted Wednesdays,” where Troops can put up an outstanding warrant. “It would be nice if some of these cases got solved,” said Riegal.
