Arrives From NYSAC

COOPERSTOWN – In a dramatic moment at the county board’s Zoom meeting a few minutes ago, County Treasurer Allen Ruffles received a new worst-case scenario showing Otsego County government stands to lose $22 million in tax revenues and state aid in the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus threat.
That would be double the current tax levy, meaning the county board would have to double the tax rate to continue funding government as is.
The new estimates were issued by NYSAC, the state Association of Counties. At low end, the county would lose 20 percent of revenues and aid; the $22 million figure is based on the 50 percent high-end number.
The county board recessed for 10 minutes.
Do ya think ?
Cut the budget! The pols are the problem!
Lets see, long lines at food banks millions of New Yorkers out of work thousands dying and the governor just extended the moratorium on evictions until the end of August. Please tell me where property owners are going to come up with the money. A large number of property owners are on fixed income so they have no extra money coming in. How did the county survive before dreams park ? On behalf of all older property owners you need to bite the bullet and cut a lot of pork from the budget and cut to the bare minimum or be prepared for all of the foreclosures that will come.
