Crash Kills Unadilla Man;

4th Local Fatality In 4 Days

SIDNEY – A Unadilla man died in a car crash early today on River Road here, the fourth fatal crash involving local people in as many days.

Troopers report Jason R. Cunningham, 39, of Unadilla, was driving a van west on River Road when he entered a sharp curve, drifted into the eastbound lane and collided with an eastbound pickup truck, driven by Matthias J. Wesner, 35, also of Unadilla.

Yesterday, a Cooperstown man was killed in a motorcycle accident on Route 11, Hartwick, and Sunday a husband and wife riding a motorcycle died in a crash in Warren, just across the Herkimer County line; a Cooperstown man was injured in that three-car chain reaction.

Cunningham was transported to Fox Hospital, where he died of crash-related injuries.  An autopsy will be conducted at Lourdes Hospital.

Wesner received minor injuries in the crash, which was reported by a 911 call at 12:09 a.m.

No tickets have been issued at this time.  This investigation is ongoing.
