IN MEMORIAM: David J. Barker, 65;
Oneonta Native Served In U.S. Army
MOUNT VISION – David J. Barker, 65, of Mount Vision, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, with his loving family by his side.
He was born March 9, 1954, in Oneonta, the son of the late Lloyd E. and Mildred (Laing) Barker. He was a life-long area resident. Following high school, David served in the Army, then in the Army National Guard for several years.
He worked for American Air Gas in Oneonta for a period of time as office manager, and worked construction for various companies.
David had a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, and loved to “tinker” with small engines. Most of all, David will be remembered for the love he had for his family and friends as he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it.
He is survived by his loving children, Jennifer (Neil) Simmons of Edmeston, Jessica Barker of Burlington Flats, Leann Barker and fiancé Joshua Sutton of Jefferson.
He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Robert Barker (Nancy) of Liberty, South Carolina, Deborah Barker of Mount Vision, John and Renee Barker of Justin, Texas, Sandra Crane of Gainesville, Georgia, Beth (David) Parker of Mount Vision, and William (Margie) Barker of Mount Vision; his six grandchildren Mackenzie Dunckel, Johnathan Barker, Justin Simmons, Hannah Decker, Madison Sutton and Emma Simmons; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Also, a special friend of the family, Raymond Timer.
A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Cross Fields Road, Mount Vision, at which time the family will be in attendance. Casual dress please!
