IN MEMORIAM

Dick Daniels, 92, of Gilbertsville;

Served As County Representative

GILBERTSVILLE – Richard F. “Dick” Daniels, 92, former member of the Otsego County Board of Representatives and a community leader in the Gilbertsville area, passed away Feb. 4, 2020, at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

Dick was born on March 23, 1927, in Hartwick, to the late Harold and Isabell (Richards) Daniels. On May 1, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart Arlene W. Fenton in the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville. He proudly served our nation in the Army in 1946-1947.

Throughout his life, Dick was a fixture in the Gilbertsville community, generous with his time and talents. He was often seen walking around Gilbertsville with his wife Arlene, holding hands. Dick always had time to “visit” with friends and neighbors and was always eager to help anyone. He did everything from trimming a neighbor’s flowering quince bush to mowing lawns and clearing snow for elderly neighbors, and building a bow and arrow with “the neighbor boy”.

He was an elder at the Gilbertsville Presbyterian Church, Butternuts town justice, a county board representative and a member of the Otsego County Magistrates Association.

He was employed by Otsego County as highway supervisor of the Butternut section.

In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and “tinkering” in his shop, skills that he passionately passed on to his sons and grandsons. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, extensive camping trips and just about anything else outdoors.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Arlene Daniels; children; Gerald (Camilla) Daniels, Jack (Kathy) Daniels, Christie (Mike) Talbot, and Diane (Jeffrey) N otarbartolo, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14, at the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville, 19 Marion Ave., Gilbertsville. The committal service will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville at a future time, to be announced.

Memorial contributions in his memory can be made to: First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville, P.O. Box 314, Gilbertsville, NY 13776 or to Helios Care, 297 River Street, S. Service Rd Suite #1, Oneonta, NY 13820.
