MOUNT VISION – Richard “Dick” Thomson, Sr., 85, a retired insurance agent and OPT driver, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016,  at home in Mount Vision surrounded by his family.

He was born on Nov. 11, 1930, in Endicott, the son of Alexander Wesley and Katherine (Robideau) Thomson.  He married Beverly O’Kelly in Norwich in 1954.

He served his country in the Navy.


Dick was employed for 35 years as a Branch Manager for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. at their office in Rome.  Most recently, he worked as a bus driver for OPT for 15 years.

He was a member of the Laurens American Legion Post #1688 as well as an active member of the Oneonta Elks BPOE #1312.

He was an avid golfer and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beverly Thomson; 4 sons; 1 daughter; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, 1 brother; 2 sisters in law; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his 8 year old granddaughter, Carrie Elizabeth Wahl; as well as one brother.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta.  Burial will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call on Monday, April 18, 2016 from 11 a.m. till service time at 1:00 p.m.
