IN MEMORIAM: Douglas Getman, 92;
Heavy-Equipment Operator In Oneonta
COOPERSTOWN – Douglas E. Getman, 92, a retired heavy-equipment operator, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday morning, June 13, 2017, at Bassett Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1924, in the Town of Theresa, Jefferson County, a son of Ernest and Eva (Bell) Getman.
After moving to Otsego County, he was employed for many years as a heavy equipment operator, and at one time worked for Edward Van de Bogart in Oneonta, as well as Hank and Donnie Burton.
On Jan. 14, 2012, Doug was united in marriage with Patricia Rose Kreutzfeldt at the Free Baptist Church in West Davenport.
Doug is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Cooperstown; a stepdaughter, Allison J. Santos of Milford; a brother, George Getman and wife, Lucille, of Turin; a sister, Gladys Pate of Castorland; two nephews, Dean Moxley and wife, Cindy, and Gary Moxley and wife Carlene; four nieces, Colleen Rogers, Gail Carey, Lois Gregory, and Judy; his nephews and nieces’ families; and many friends.
He was predeceased by three sisters, twins Dorothy Moxley and Doris Marlof, and Pauline M. Seelman; a brother, Donald Getman; a son, John Edward Getman, who died in infancy in 1960; and a step son, Norman D. Vass.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 22, at the Free Baptist Church on Charlotte Creek Road, West Davenport, with Pastor Steve Estes officiating. A luncheon will follow-please bring a dish to pass.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
