IN MEMORIAM: Douglas Silvernail, 78;
Worked For Gabriel Harris Jewelers, Ames
ONEONTA – Douglas C. Silvernail, 78, an accountant with the former Gabriel Harris Jewelers for many years, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Cooperstown Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation.
Doug was born April 10, 1940, in Bainbridge, the son of the late Clifford L. Silvernail and Beatrice Mae (Sisson) Silvernail Locke.
After Harris Jewelers, Doug, a lifelong area resident, enjoyed working for Ames Department Store in the shoe department.
Doug was an avid collector. He enjoyed music, especially Frank Sinatra, and crossword puzzles. Doug was also a budding birdwatcher in the final years of his life. Neighbors will remember Doug walking his beloved dogs, Elizabeth, Barney and Peanut, through the neighborhood and along the railroad tracks.
Doug will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, gentle and caring man who stood by his partner and her family in sickness and in health.
Doug is survived by his longtime friend, companion and love, Beverly Mosher, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two nieces, Rosie and Pam; his three nephews, Pete, Brian and David; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Rosalie and Patricia; and his niece, Judy.
Doug’s family thanks the Cooperstown Center Staff with whom Doug developed special relationships during his stay. His family also expresses appreciation for the care he received at Bassett Hospital.
At Doug’s request, there will be no calling hours or services. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
