New Vice President At Fox

ONEONTA  – Dr. Reginald Knight, an orthopedic surgeon at Bassett Hospital, has been named vice president of medical affairs at Fox Hospital, effective July 5.

Among his responsibilities will be expanding Fox’s orthopedic offerings.  When it was announced in April that Fox’s birthing room would be consolidated with the one in Cooperstown, the Oneonta hospital was also identified as a possible “center of excellence in orthopedics.”

Knight has been an attending orthopedic surgeon at Basssett since 2009.  He is also director of Bassett’s spine care institute and president of the medical staff.

At vice president, he succeeds Dr. Ben Friedell, in that role for the past six years.  Friedell is stepping down to return to full-time practice at Oneonta Family Practice.

In his new role, Knight will be responsible for supporting the strategic plan for management of the network, continued integration of clinical services through the Bassett Medical Group and ensuring the quality of medical outcomes.

Part of his oversight will include recruiting physician leadership, serving as a confidant and adviser to all of the physicians within the hospital, as well as focusing on the expansion of orthopedics and other service lines at Fox.

“First and foremost, it is an honor to be chosen as the next Vice President of Medical Affairs at A.O. Fox Hospital. I am excited about the opportunity to work with Jeff Joyner and his administrative team as we further strengthen our collaboration with Fox, its patients, physicians and providers under the umbrella of the Bassett Healthcare Network,” said Knight.

Knight graduated from SUNY Upstate Medical Center and completed an internship in general surgery; as well as an orthopedic residency at New York Medical College. He also completed a fellowship in spinal surgery at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and has a Masters of Health Administration from Capella University.

He is also no stranger to the area. “Having spent many of my formative years as an undergraduate at SUCO, the City of Oneonta is not foreign to me. I have many fond memories of my days on the hill. Since returning to the area, I have been involved with the SUCO Foundation Board and look forward to continuing my interactions with the Oneonta community at large,” said Knight.
