IN MEMORIAM: Edward Town Taws III;
Known As Mayor Of Pathfinder Village
EDMESTON – Edward Town Taws III, 56, known as the mayor of Pathfinder Village, passed away Saturday Aug. 31, 2019, at Pathfinder.
Ted was born on Nov. 24, 1962, in Southern Pines, N.C., to Edward Town and Ann (Poindexter) Taws Jr.
Ted’s outsized presence left an impression on all whom were fortunate to know him. He was gifted with an extraordinary personality whose passion for living far exceeded the handicap with which he lived.
Ted had lived in Pathfinder Village since 1997. Often referred to as Pathfinder’s mayor, Ted was known for making his rounds of the village – sometimes with the on-call manager – and always checking-in with staff to deliver smiles and, for those so lucky, a signature bear hug.
Ted had been a member of the Special Olympics basketball, soccer and bowling teams. Weekends found him in the gym or playing drums as he impatiently awaited the beginning of the work week.
Ted was a member of the Pathfinder kitchen staff and frequent Pathfinder Village volunteer. When not hard at work in the village, Ted participated in numerous organizations, including his cherished Edmeston Emergency Squad and Pittsfield Fire Department EMS, where he volunteered and participated in parades and special events.
Ted was predeceased by his mother Ann Poindexter Taws and is survived by his father Edward Town Taws Jr., sister Helen Gwyn Taws and brother John Hartman Taws, his wife Kimberly Daniels Taws and nephews Reed and Whit.
A memorial service celebrating Ted’s life will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Pathfinder’s All Faiths Community Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Edward T and Ann P Taws Jr Scholarship, Pathfinder Village Foundation, 3 Chenango Road, Edmeston, New York 13335.
