IN MEMORIAM: Elaine More, 87;
Farmed In Pierstown, East Springfield
EAST SPRINGFIELD – Elaine More, who farmed with her husband in Pierstown and East Springfield, passed away early Saturday morning, April 13, 2019, at Cooperstown Center following a short illness. She was 87.
Elaine was born Nov. 15, 1931, in Cooperstown, a daughter of J. Emory and Wilma (Curry) Bloomer. Raised in Hyde Park, Town of Hartwick, Elaine attended Cooperstown Central School, graduating with the Class of 1949.
On Oct. 30, 1949, she married Avery G. More and for the next nine years they lived and farmed on the west side of Otsego Lake near Pierstown. In 1959, they moved to a farm in East Springfield where she continued to help her husband with their farm until his death on Feb. 9, 1973.
In 1974 Elaine went to work at Bassett Hospital, first as a unit clerk and later in Central Processing, retiring in 1994.
Elaine was an active and devoted member of The First Presbyterian Church of Springfield and served as its treasurer for many years.
Elaine is survived by her son, Stephen Avery More and his wife Arlene of East Springfield; her daughters, Linda Oldick and her husband Steve of Cooperstown and Barbara Henza and her husband Richard of Cortland; five grandchildren, Bill Oldick and his wife Anne Margaret, Brad Oldick and his wife Karen, Raymond More, April Grecho and her husband Dave, and Alissa Henza; six great-grandhildren, Brock Oldick, Joseph Gigilo, Thailor More, Ocea More, Sierra More and Avery Grecho; her siblings, Malcolm H. Bloomer and his wife Brenda of Hartwick, Kenneth E. Bloomer of St. Louis, MO, Genevra Placek of Plantsville, CT, and Velma Vibbard and her husband, Kenneth of Burlington; a sister-in-law, Lois Bloomer of Bangor, ME; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Elaine was predeceased by her brothers, Ernest D. Bloomer on July 17, 2001, John E. Bloomer on July 23, 2014, and her sister June Travis on June 27, 2009.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Connell Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with Elaine’s nephew, Dave Bloomer, officiating. Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Saturday, from 11 a.m. until service time, at the funeral home, when Elaine’s family will be in attendance.
