COOPERSTOWN – A hit-and-run victim is recovering today after allegedly being struck by a vehicle on Chestnut Street last night.

According to Cooperstown Police Chief Mike Covert, a 76-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk down Chestnut Street southbound when she was allegedly hit by a vehicle backing out of a driveway. The victim told police that the operator of the vehicle did not stop to check on her, and continued driving down the street.

“I’m not even sure the driver knew that they hit the woman,” said Covert.

The woman fell to the ground and hit her head on the sidewalk, but got up and continued walking toward Price Chopper. Police stopped the woman near the new CVS and called paramedics to check on her. Her only wound, a bump on her head, was not considered severe, and the woman was released after a thorough examination.

“We interviewed some of the neighbors and no one saw anything,” said Covert, who is continuing the investigation into the incident.

Anyone with any information regarding this incident can call the Cooperstown Police Department at 547-2500.
