Exotic Morgans Gather
On Lawn At Hyde Hall
Nicholas Cunningham of Springfield (top photo), accompanied by Oz, his Wheaton terrier, chats with Janet Souza of Hartsville, Bucks County, Pa., alongside her and husband Tony’s 1934 Morgan, the oldest four-wheeler at today’s Autumn MOG (Morgan Owners’ Gathering) 2016 on the lawn of the Hyde Hall National Historic Landmark on Otsego Lake. The Morgan Motor Co. formed in 1909, combining a self-proclaimed “blend of charisma, craftsmanship and performance.” It is still manufacturing sports cars in Great Britain. Today’s event attracted 40 cars and 80-100 enthusiasts from New England, New York and New Jersey. Everybody had a story.
Frank Wnek of Harpswell, Maine – he hosted last fall’s event, the main gathering of the chapter’s year – said he happened on a Morgan rally during post-grad Naval training in Monterey, Calif., many years ago. After his young child graduated from college, he treated himself by buying aMorgan. The MOG has happened in Williamstown, Mass., Saratoga and other Cooperstown-like places. At right, Morgan fans gathered on the upstair front porch to snap photos of the assembled autos with Glimmerglass in the background. (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)
