IN MEMORIAM: Gaspare Stabile;
Immigrated, Farmed In Worcester
WORCESTER – Born in the old country, Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily, Italy, Gaspare Stabile led a life full of adventure.
His parents Giuseppe and Maria Cristina taught him a lot about the ways of the land, along with several uncles and cousins.
At the age of 19, he emigrated to the United States without any knowledge of what he would do. He seized the opportunity to forge a life with many difficulties as he didn’t speak any English. His strength and determination led him to the opportunity of becoming a mason. Competition was fierce, but Gaspare was able to rise above that as his attention to detail along with his friendliness led to many successes.
He married Margaret Lombardi. They had three daughters, Cristina, Theresa and Marguerite. Life was good but sadly the marriage ended. Several years went by and he met Elaine Fosco who would become Gaspare’s second wife. Her children are Karin, Harry, Wendy and Penny.
Gaspare’s love of the land led to a farm in which he and Elaine worked for many years together. Gaspare’s love of animals big and small made it a place of magic and fond memories for all who visited. Horses, deer, rabbits, sheep, pigs, cows, ducks, geese and many other animals were part of the farm. Sportsmen loved the thrill of the hunt or they relaxed by fishing in the ponds. There was only one thing better and that was gathering around the table talking and enjoying their catch or food that was prepared by Gaspare or Elaine or one of the hunters themselves.
Gaspare had so many talents, including being an excellent marksman, that he was able to get to go on a safari of a lifetime and bag trophy animals, some of which you only see on TV.
What made Gaspare well-loved by people was his kindness to share his knowledge, whether it was building something or making cheese. Gaspare left you feeling welcomed and happy. Friendships were formed that lasted for many, many, many years.
It’s with broken hearts that we say Gaspare Stabile left this world on Aug. 13, 2019.
Surviving family include daughters, Cristina (Douglas), Penny, Theresa (Angelo), Marguerite (Anthony) and Karin, Wendy; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one godson; four nieces; four nephews; and siblings, Francesco (predeceased), Domenico (Lilla), Brigida (Simone).
Gaspare’s legacy lives on, just like the wind blows through the blades of grass, Timeless. Endless. Eternal.
