ONEONTA – George Petroff, 90, for many years doorman at fine hotels in New York City, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2016, at Fox Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1926, in Brooklyn, the son of Constantine and Mary (Provaznik) Petroff.

George was a wonderful husband and father.  He was a sweet, kind, and gentle man. An avid sports fan, he had a special love of baseball and was a lifelong Yankee fan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lena Petroff of Oneonta; and a son, George K. Petroff of Oneonta.

A memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta, with Rev. David Mickiewicz officiating.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

Donations in George’s memory are asked to be made to the Oneonta Fire Department & Emergency Squad.
