IN MEMORIAM: Hebert Siems, USAF Veteran

ONEONTA – Herbert Siems, an Air Force veteran, passed away on Tuesday, Dece. 29, 2015, at the state Veterans Home in Oxford.

The son of Grete (Ristig) and Carl Siems, he was born in The Bronx, and graduated from Christopher Columbus High School there in 1947.

He earned a certificate of graduation in the Air Force Medical Corps and was honorably discharged in 1958.

Herbert worked for The Daily Star for 25 years.

He married the former Jean Benson on March 29, 1964.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Eric Siems of California; grandson, Eric Alexander Siems; two cousins, Cordelia (Hubertus) Fraatz and Dr. Alexander (Georgia) Siems, all of Germany.

Herbert was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Fred Siems.

Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

A special thanks to the Veterans Home staff for the excellent care given to Herbert.
