IN MEMORIAM: Helen Huntington, 96;

Active In Westford’s Community Life

WESTFORD – Helen Frances Huntington, 96, who was active in Westford’s community life, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2017.

She was born in Worcester, to Otho and Goldie (Barton) Millias. After graduating from Worcester Central School, she worked as a clerk at Scintilla in Sidney.  She married James Huntington on June 3, 1945, and together they raised four children.

An active member of her community, Helen volunteered in many organizations including PTA, Scouts, OES, DAR and St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church. She was very social and enjoyed playing bridge and attending church weekly.

Helen even turned her hobbies into ways to reach out to friends and family. She was an avid knitter and over the years made more than 200 Christmas stockings as well as afghans and sweaters for the people she loved.

She was predeceased by her husband and two sons, Thomas and James, her parents, five brothers and one sister.

Helen is survived by her sister, Ruth Halloran; her daughters, Linda (Alan) Morley of Victor, and Roxanne (Kevin) Murray of Cooperstown, as well as five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to the Coach Jim Huntington Memorial Fund (given through the Schenevus Foundation for Excellence in Education), Cooperstown Fire Department EMS Squad or Catskill Area Hospice.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial as well as an Eastern Star service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, at Christ Episcopal Church, 46 River St., Cooperstown. Burial will be in Westford Cemetery.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Staff at Focus Otsego and Catskill Area Hospice for their love and support during this difficult time.

It must be noted that attempting to reduce her life into a few lines leaves unspoken the most important moments of selfless support and love that Helen shared with everyone she knew. No monument to her life will be as lasting as the memories she leaves behind.
