In Memoriam
Douglas Lynn McLaud, 72
March 4, 1949 – January 7, 2022
Douglas Lynn McLaud passed away peacefully on January 7, 2022 at his home in Springhill, Florida with his beloved wife Pauline Miller McLaud at his side. Douglas and Pauline were married on December 31, 1968 and had just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Pauline’s care exemplified their lifelong love.
Douglas was born on March 4, 1949 in Oneonta, New York. He was the son of Douglas M. and Joan Crandall McLaud. Douglas grew up in Oneonta and Otego and graduated from SUNY Oneonta. After graduation, Douglas worked for many years with his parents as part of the Douglas M. McLaud Insurance Agency team in Otego, NY. before moving to Cocoa Beach, Florida. Douglas owned and operated a Ship Chandlery business in Port Canaveral, Florida and became a Real Estate Developer in Florida.
Douglas and Pauline raised two beautiful and beloved daughters; Amy Susan McLaud Callahan and Lori Ann McLaud Bedard, both of Florida. Douglas was the beloved “Grandpy” to his grandchildren Charlie Callahan, Sam Callahan, Rachel Bedard, Andrew Jacob Bedard and Noah Bedard and his great granddaughter Zoey Callahan. He loved them ALL and they will all miss him greatly. Douglas also shared a deep friendship and love for his grandchildren’s fathers Chuck Callahan and Andrew Bedard.
Douglas loved living on the canals in Cocoa Beach and enjoyed watching the dolphins and manatees each day. Douglas also loved playing and watching golf. Most of all Douglas loved his family.
Douglas is also survived by his sisters Leslie Blum of South Dakota, Susan Van Cott (Craig) of Unadilla, NY and Mary E. McLaud of South West Harbor, Maine who all agree that Douglas was a much loved, great big brother growing up! He is also survived by nieces and nephews Daniel Dolezel, Stephanie Horlock, Zoe Vandermeulen, Suzi Spisak Moutinho, Leif Van Cott, Gillian Morrison, Ian Van Cott and Alex Van Cott. Douglas is also survived by his sister-in-law Linda Miller of Kentucky.
Douglas was predeceased by his parents Douglas and Joan McLaud, in-laws John and Betty Miller, his sister Kathleen McLaud Spisak and his niece Ginny Dolezel.
All donations should be made in memory of Douglas McLaud to: HOSPICE @Chapter Health System 3010 W. Azeele Street Tampa, Florida 33609.
*Douglas also felt strongly about adopting a pet in need and planting a tree!
Doug was a kind and friendly man. Best neighbor anyone could have. He will be missed by all especially his wife Pauline. RIP Doug
Leslie, Susan and Mary…my deepest sympathy goes out to you with Doug’s passing. He was part of the “glue” that held the “State Street Playmates” together until your family moved to Otego. My memories of our days riding our bikes to Wilber Park pool, down Union Street (despite Kathy and My “mishap” in front of Mary House’s House) come up in conversation frequently. Leslie, your Mom and I corresponded for a few years until her passing, also. She was a great Mom and a wonderful neighbor. Please extend my sympathies as well as Cindy’s to Doug’s family, even though they don’t know us. God Bless.
