ONEONTA – Jacqueline “Jacquie” Gibson, 50, well-known in Oneonta and beyond as a former aide to state Sen. Jim Seward, R-Milford, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.

Jacquie was born on Jan. 21, 1965, in Sidney, the daughter of John and Dorothy (Klee) Thomas. She married Douglas Gibson on Oct. 17, 1987. He predeceased her on Oct. 24, 2009.

She was a legislative assistant in the senator’s office for 15 years. Prior to that she coordinated the after-school program for Oneonta City Schools and at one time she was an event planner for Cathedral Farms.

Jacquie attended the Main Street Baptist Church. She was a former member of Rotary, and was involved with the City of Oneonta First Night Program and served on the Board of Assessment and Review for the City of Oneonta.

Jacquie is survived by her sons, John T. Gibson and his fiancée, Taylor Foreman of Durham, NC and Christopher C. Gibson of Oneonta; her parents, Jack and Dottie Thomas of Masonville.

She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses, William “Bil” and Linda Thomas of Masonville, Susan and Richard Wakeman of Manchester, TN and John and Nancy Thomas of Slingerlands, NY and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and all the neighborhood kids.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta.

A memorial service will be held at Noon on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Main Street Baptist Church, 333 Main Street, Oneonta with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, pastor officiating.

Donations in Jacquie’s memory may be made to the Family Service of Oneonta or a charity of the donor’s choice.
