IN MEMORIAM: Joseph Marsh, 92, Worcester;
WWII Air Force Veteran, School Bus Mechanic
WORCESTER – Joseph Marsh, 92, a World War II Air Force veteran and bus mechanic for Worcester Central School, died Jan. 15, 2019. Born in Paterson, N.J., he was stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany.
He and his devoted wife, Dorothy (Duritzo) Marsh were married for 62 years until her death in April 2018; they moved to Worcester in 1957.
At first, he worked for Phillips Buick in Oneonta as an auto mechanic, then at Worcester Central School as the bus-garage mechanic and a bus driver for 23 years.
He was a 50-year member of the Worcester American Legion, a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Wanderer’s Car Club. He had an extraordinary mechanical ability, had a passion for car shows and was known for his love of AMC cars. He was a dedicated family man who was well-known and respected throughout the community.
He is survived by his children, Joseph Marsh of Worcester and Cheryl Marsh of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Samantha, Alexis, Joseph and Logan; nieces and nephews, Lorraine, Leonard, Ronald, and Dot.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Will, Harold, Julia, Dot and Joan.
He is additionally survived by many beloved relatives on his wife’s side of the family: sister-in-law, Mary Reiling and her children, Michael and Michele; nieces and nephews Tonya, Stanley, Sondra and Gregory, and their children, Brianna, Evan, Brad, Richard Jr., Heather, Stanley Jr., Jennifer, Julie and Jake.
Joe was fortunate to remain in his home until his passing as a result of exceptional home health care by loving caretakers Nancy O’Flaherty, Lisa Keever and great nieces Dianna and Sarah Evans.
Calling hours will be from, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the funeral service at 7 p.m. on Monday January 21, 2019 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester, with the Pastor Tom Davis officiating.
Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester at a later date.
