IN MEMORIAM: Janet C. Miller, 89;

First Female County Fire Dispatcher

Janet C. Miller

MORRIS – Janet C. Miller, the first female dispatcher at Otsego County Fire Control, passed away suddenly on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, She was surrounded by loved ones.

Janet was born on May 12, 1938, to Fredrick Haug and Margaret (McElroy) McMullen. She was Predeceased by her brother Roy McMullen and beloved step-children Deanna Wallace (Miller) and Ronald Miller Jr.

Janet’s life spanned an array of places, time, and people. She started as a wife, mother, and farmer. Later in life she was a school bus driver for Morris Central School. She was the first female dispatcher for Otsego County Fire Control.

She then worked for Fox Hospital for over 20 years. After retiring, she was a hostess for Eastern Tours Bus Line. For the past 10 years, she has cared for many dogs, cats, and sometimes sheep and other farm animals for many around the valley.

Janet was a member of several EMS, auxiliary departments, and churches. Her most recent memberships were to the Morris Fire Dept Auxiliary, and the Morris United Methodist Church. Janet’s faith was the most important to her. She was a born-again Christian and read the Bible daily. Janet had many joys in life, including reading, camping, kayaking, and hiking. Some of her favorite places were the Adirondack Mountains and Old Forge. She was also talented on the guitar and piano. Of all her joys in life, her family and friends meant the most to her.

Janet is survived by her husband Ronald E. Miller. She is also survived by siblings Fredrick and Sherry Haug, Bruce and Donna Haug, Deanna and Louis Foote (Haug), Jeanie and Lynn Elliott (Haug), Margaret Ent (Haug), Nancy and James Devins (McMullen), Glenn and Kim McMullen, Lance and Margie Haug, and Fletcher and Wendy Haug.

Janet is also survived by her children Debra and Russell Card (Card), Cheryl and Paul Yatsonsky (Card), Douglas and Lisa Card, Steward and Kelly Card, Janet and Michael Whitbeck (Card), and Harold and Marlinda Card. Also in her life; Step-children Randy and Jean Miller, Joseph and Cindy Miller, Matthew and Dana Miller, and Olivia (David) Miller.
Janet touched the lives of many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service for Janet at the United Methodist Church in Morris,NY at 3 pm, on Thursday August 22, 2019. We will gather afterward at the Morris Fire House to celebrate her life. In Lieu of Flowers, feel free to make a contribution in Janet’s name to
