IN MEMORIAM: Judy S. Winnie, 67; Worked In Bassett ICU
FLY CREEK – Judy S. Winnie, 67, of Fly Creek, who was a clerk in the Bassett Hospital ICU for 23 years before her retirement, passed away after a long illness, Sunday morning, June 15, 2014, at Bassett.
A native of Virginia, she was born Aug. 26, 1946, in Petersburg, a daughter of the late Estel Edwin Stark and Ruth Estelle (Gee) Stark.
On Nov. 25, 1967, she married Harry Lee Winnie, Jr., whom she had met while he was serving in the military in Virginia. They moved to Toddsville, then Fly Creek, where they made their home on Feed Store Road.
Judy first worked for five years at the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, then joined Bassett.
Judy often attended programs put on by the Fly Creek Grange and also attended the Fly Creek United Methodist Church. An avid reader, she enjoyed working at her computer as well as craft work involving baskets.
In addition to her husband of 47 years, Judy is survived by their son, Kevin Michael Winnie, who is currently serving with the Army in Germany with his wife, Donna, and her children; three sisters, Joyce Wilkerson and Sissie Cummins, both of Colonial Height, Va., and Karolen R. Flowers of Frankston, Texas; one brother, Dale Stark and his wife, Gloria, of Macon, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Audrey Lee Winnie of Fly Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation and service will be announced and held in the near future.
