Katz: Village Would Cooperate
If Immigration Officials Asked
COOPERSTOWN – A few moments ago, Mayor Jeff Katz said the Village Board this evening did not intend to declare Cooperstown a “sanctuary village.”
He said the resolution unanimously approved was intended to narrowly apply to provision of immigration law where the federal government could “delegate” responsibility to enforce immigration law on localities like Cooperstown – and village police lack the resources to handle that.
However, Katz continued, if federal agents were to conduct immigration investigations in Cooperstown, village police would cooperate.
“Sanctuary city” resolutions are far different from what the trustees adopted this evening, he said.
This Board has repeatedly instituted regulations (parking meters, limited parking hours, zoning policies, et al, ) that reflects a complete absence of the concept of “unintended consequences”. As with all liberals, while our nation has rejected socialism, they still reside in a self-absorbed fantasy world in which they are so intellectually superior that all others are bound to their will. The sanctuary decision is only one of many foolish decisions undertaken in an arrogant vacuum devoid of any opportunity for challenge or even debate. Marx called such people ally “leaps”. We call them “elitists”.
Cooperstown’s life blood is tourism. With the United States overwhelmingly conservative and with literally thousands of options for vacation travel, this Board is jeopardizing the welfare of all village citizens – whatever their political mindset – by placing their personal agendas ahead of the village’s. That is not what they were elected and swore to represent.
