IN MEMORIAM: Kenneth Vibbard, 88;
40-Year Farmer In Burlington Flats
BURLINGTON FLATS – Kenneth A. Vibbard Sr, 88, a 40-year dairy farmer, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020, in Cooperstown, surrounded by his loving family.
Kenneth was born on Jan. 18, 1932 in Oneonta, the son of the late Wesley P. and Martha Drake Vibbard. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years Velma B. Vibbard, and a son-in-law, Wayne Bennett.
A lifetime resident of the area, Ken graduated in 1950 from Cooperstown Central School, where he excelled in athletics.
In June 1953, he married Velma. The couple celebrated 66 years of marriage before her passing in 2019.
In 1956, he and Velma bought their Burlington Flats dairy farm, which they operated until their retirement in 1996.
Ken was a member of the Burlington Green Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he served as deacon for many of those years.
He was also Town of Burlington assesor for many years, and was on the Fly Creek Milk Co-Op Board of Directors.
Ken was an avid fan of the LA Dodgers, and Boston Celtics.
He is survived by sons Kevin (Kirstin) Vibbard of Sherburne, Kenneth Vibbard Jr. of Utica, and Kyle (Kim) Vibbard of Sidney; daughters Deborah Vibbard of Cortland, and Kathy Bennett of West Winfield; grandchildren Kristi Vibbard, Austen Bennett, Briana (Scott) Brown, Kevin Vibbard Jr., Patrick (Kate Deshaw) Vibbard, and Nathan Vibbard. Also surviving are several cousins, nieces, nephews, and in laws.
Calling hours will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday Jan. 25, at Delker & Terry Funeral Home, 30 South St., Edmeston. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m., with Pastor Barry Davis of the Burlington Green Baptist Church officiating.
Spring interment will be in Burlington Green Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Burlington Green Baptist Church, 2225 County Highway 16, Burlington Flats, NY 13315 in memory of Ken.
