Bob and Peggy Poulson’s daughter, Jill, visiting in Cooperstown from New York City, captured the Friday afternoon lightning storm.  The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m., a rarity around here.  Dark clouds and lightning cross Otsego Lake from west to east for about a half hour, but moved on without any damaged.

Tornado Watch Issued for Otsego and Surrounding Counties

According to the National Weather Service, Tornado Watch 605 remains in effect until 11 p.m. this evening for six Central New York counties: Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, and Tioga, and in seven Pennsylvania counties. BFS, Lake Organizations Announce Otsego Lake HAB Testing Strategy By WRILEY NELSONSPRINGFIELD SUNY Oneonta’s Biological Field Station announced its 2023 Otsego Lake Research and Cyanobacteria Monitoring Plan as part of the ongoing effort to study and control harmful algal blooms in Otsego County. The sampling strategy will focus on variations in temperature, nutrients, algal and cyanobacteria abundance, and toxin concentration along depth gradients in the heavily-affected north end of the lake.
