Louella Washburn, 97, Unadilla; Last Of Her Family’s 1920s Generation
UNADILLA – Louella Mary Washburn, 97, last survivor of the 1920s generation of the Washburn family, passed away peacefully at Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019 after a short illness.
Known as “Nanny,” she was born Nov. 4 in the Town of Bethel on the family farm, the daughter of the late Archie and Mary (Buchanan) Washburn.
She was a 1940 graduate of Unadilla Schools, lived on the farm on Washburn Road with her brother, Roland, for over 82 years.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Earl Washburn, Robert Glover and Roland J. Wilford, and twin brothers, Charles A. and Harold Washburn, all of Unadilla. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Philomena Mongillo Washburn, Oneonta; nephews Gary Washburn of Oneonta, Church (Pat) Washburn of Oneonta, Roland (Janet) Washburn of Otego, Jim Washburn and family of Bainbridge, Bud Washburn
and David Washburn of Unadilla; niece Phyllis Dolly Washburn Arnold, Bainbridge, several great-nieces and great-nephews and her special cat, “Susie.”
Calling hours will be held 10 a.m.at the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home, 123 Main St., Unadilla.
Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Benjamin Shaw officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla, in the spring.
