Man arrested for
allegedly discharging weapon
during altercation
at Oneonta Speedway

Randy Lamont Butler, 28, was arrested for allegedly discharging a gun at the Speedway in Oneonta in the early hours of Sunday, June 6, Oneonta police say.
The incident started when Butler got into a verbal altercation with a woman at the Speedway at 325 Main St., which spilled out into the parking lot, where another woman also got involved, according to Lt. Chris Witzenberg, the city’s acting chief of police.
According to Witzenberg, this is the first time a gun was illegally discharged in the city since 1999.
Butler allegedly pointed a gun at both of the women, had a physical altercation with them and then discharged his weapon onto the ground in the parking lot of the Speedway.
Witzenberg said that they recovered the weapon used in the shooting and have video evidence of surveillance footage from the Speedway. He said this was the result of an “intensive investigation between (the Oneonta Police Department) and the State Police.”
He said the collaboration with OPD and the State Police was “fantastic. We work really well with them.”
Butler is being arraigned Monday, June 7, at the Oneonta City Court.
Really? That’s far from the truth. When their was a guy killed a few months ago when shots were fired and my fiancé was killed a year ago when 4 shots were fired. So the cops have tried to cover it’ll all up maybe since 1999, but I can assure you, shots have definite taken place WAY more than they like to discuss especially when it makes themselves look bad. But boy if a police officer was shot and killed that’s all we’d hear about for months or if one of their family members was of their significant other or their child we’d have the cable shut off cause we’d get so damn sick of hearing about it. But boy when it’s our loved one, it goes unheard. Corrupt!!!’ Absolutely corrupt
