Mary Ann Vunk, 71, of Edmeston;
Dr. Streck’s Assistant For 30 Years
EDMESTON – Mary Ann Vunk, 71, assistant to former Bassett Healthcare CEO/President Bill Streck for many years, passed away peacefully Thursday July 6, 2017, at her home following an extended illness.
Mary Ann was born on Nov. 16, 1945 in Utica, the daughter of the late Donald F. and Kathryn Burns Vunk. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was also pre-deceased by a brother Daniel Vunk in 1974, and a nephew Joseph Vunk in 2016.
Mary Ann was a 1963 graduate of Edmeston Central School, and of Broome Community College in 1965. She was a proud employee of Bassett Healthcare Network for over 50 years, and Dr. Streck’s assistant for 30 of those years. She and Dr. Streck remained very close friends following her retirement.
Mary Ann was a former member of the Church of the Nativity, and served on the Edmeston Union Cemetery Board for many years.
Above all, Mary Ann loved and cherished her family. She enjoyed weekend trips with her sister and family to the Adirondacks, and hardly ever missed a ballgame or concert for her nephews or nieces. She will be missed dearly.
She is survived by: a brother John “Jack” (Donna) Vunk of Edmeston, a sister Terri (Kevin) Scrivener of Edmeston, nieces and nephews Jeremy (April) Vunk, Kari (Zeno) Lantos, Kristopher (Jess Allen) Vunk, Erik (Megan) Scrivener, Erin (Akeem Adeyemi) Scrivener, Cherished great nieces and nephews Jack and Julia Vunk, Alex and Max Lantos, Madalyn Vunk, Lillie Vunk and Wade Scrivener.
The Vunk family would like to thank Darlene, Chantel, Britney, and Tina for the extraordinary care shared with Mary Ann.
Funeral services were today at noon at the Delker & Terry Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Piedmonte of the Garrattsville Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment followed in Edmeston Union Cemetery, Edmeston.
