Raised 4 Children In Cooperstown
COOPERSTOWN – Mary Hazelden Schmitt, 85, formerly of Cooperstown, passed away Nov. 13, 2016, in Glendale, Wisc.
She was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Utica. Mary lived for most of her life in New York, growing up in Waterville, then residing in Yonkers with her first husband, Paul Meyer, and Cooperstown,, before moving to Wisconsin in 2006. She spent the last 10 years of her life at the Laurel Oaks assisted living facility in Glendale.
In Cooperstown, she spent many years volunteering for the Susquehanna SPCA and cared deeply about the well-being of animals. She was generous, kind, and loved by many.
Mary is survived by her four children: Lisa Meyer (Jeffrey Hughes) of Shelburne Vt., Gretchen Meyer (Raymond F. Gates III) of Cedarburg Wisc., Peter Meyer (Bonnie Meyer) of Tacoma Wash., and Kristen Stroud (George Stroud) of Mount Shasta, Calif.. She had seven grandchildren (Sam and Julia Hughes; Sonya, Naomi, and Monica Meyer; and Weston and Owen Stroud). She is further survived by her brother David Hazelden of Waterville.
She was predeceased by her second husband Joseph Schmitt and her brother Edward (Ted) Hazelden.
