IN MEMORIAM: Melanie McKenna, 62;

Oneonta Native Raised With 8 Siblings

Melanie McKenna

ONEONTA – Oneonta native Melanie Margaret McKenna, 62, of Broadway, Va., who was active in German Shepherd rescues, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at her home.

Melanie was born and raised in Oneonta and was one of six daughters and three sons of the late James Asbury and Alyce Trimm Foley Fawcett.

She graduated OHS in 1974, attended Mount Ida Junior College and SUNY Brockport.

She was a lifelong lover of all animals and assisted in the rescue of German shepherds. She loved to entertain her family and friends.

On July 1, 1994, she married John Francis McKenna, who passed away on Feb. 17, 2017.

Surviving is a son, Brandon Farley and Sabrina of San Diego, Calif.; step-daughters Erin Wax (Nathan), Bridget Alfonso (Jeff); siblings Sheila Bonadonna and (Tony), Gail Leslie Kleinschmidt (Mike), Terry Fawcett, Lawrence Fawcett (Risa), Victoria Fawcett-Adams (Pete), Brian Fawcett (Jackie); two grandchildren, Pia Martin, John Wax; step-grandchildren Justin Wax, Mark Wax; Evelyn Alfonso and Eileen Alfonso; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Melanie was preceded in death by her brother, James Barry Fawcett; and sister, Valerie Frances Fawcett.

Melanie was a giving, loving spirit in this world and was taken from us all too soon. Her beauty, Irish smile and great sense of humor will be sadly missed as a mother, sister and good friend. Rest in Peace, Tumbleweed.

At her request, the body was cremated.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Silvio officiating.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Aug. 3, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 154 N. Main St., Harrisonburg, Va.
