Kevin J. Burnsworth, 53;
Golf Professional In Bay State
ONEONTA – Kevin James Burnsworth, 53, son of Carole and Charles Burnsworth, died on June 2, 2017 in Lancaster, Mass. where he was working as a golf professional at Shaker Hills Country Club in Harvard, Mass.
Kevin was a standout athlete at Oneonta High School, earning nine varsity letters as captain of the school’s golf team, and played on the soccer and basketball teams. He also played as a pitcher for the American Legion team and once pitched a “No Hit” game. In 1982, as a senior at Oneonta High School, he won the New York State Golf Championship at Cornell University.
He attended Old Dominion University on a golf scholarship, and graduated in 1986. After qualifying for membership in the PGA of America, he worked as a golf professional at nine different courses, four of them as the head golf professional.
Kevin was a passionate Boston sports fan, especially of the Red Sox. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music and going to Cape Cod whenever possible. Most of all, Kevin cherished time with his family. He loved deeply, and was loved by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; daughter, Samantha; son, Ian; and Suzanne’s children, Alexis Bell and Devon Burnsworth of Sarasota, Florida; his sister, Kathy (Paul) Lazarovich and daughters, Meaghan and Shannon of Middleboro, Massachusetts and brother, David (Amy) Burnsworth and son, Owen and daughter, Avery of Oneonta; and his father, Charles Burnsworth of Oneonta.
He was predeceased by his mother, Carole.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, at the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main Street in Oneonta.
