IN MEMORIAM:  Nadine Sternberg, 88;

Retired Teacher Moved To Cooperstown

Nadine Sternberg

COOPERSTOWN – Nadine Sternberg, 88, mother of Village Trustee Richard Sternberg, passed away this afternoon, March 31, 2018, at Centers Health Care, formerly Focus.

Her husband, Donald D. Sternberg, passed away Feb. 10, also at Focus.  Both had lived in Oceanside, L.I. until September 2016, when they moved to the Thanksgiving Home in Cooperstown to be near their son.

Mrs. Sternberg was born on Aug. 29, 1929, the daughter of Fred and Ray Fox.  She attended Samuel Tilden High School in Brooklyn, then received a bachelor’s from Hunter College and a master’s in political science from New York University.

The Sternbergs married on Sept. 20, 1951, and lived in Queens until 1973, when they moved to Long Island.

She taught in New York City schools for 34 years, and in the latter part of her career was teamed up as a mentor to young teachers.

In Oceanside, she was active in her synagogue, and in the League of Women Voters.

In addition to her son, Richard, a retired Bassett orthopedic surgeon, she is also survived by son Douglas in Oceanside, and five grandchildren, Dr. Sternberg’s two daughters, Marisa and Jeanna; and Douglas’ three children, Daniel, Jessica Crawford and Miriam.

Arrangements are with Gutterman’s Funeral Home in Rockville Center, L.I.
