Swart-Wilcox To Host Forest Talk Sunday
ONEONTA—David Wightman of Wightman Specialty Woods will present his encyclopedic knowledge of trees and forests at the Swart-Wilcox House Museum at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 9. The talk will cover the history and value of Otsego County’s wooded areas. It is part of Swart-Wilcox’s Summer Sunday event series. The talk, at the museum front lawn on Wilcox Avenue, is free and open to the public and is handicap accessible. Attendees are advised to bring a chair. Tom Hovey Music Festival Begins Monday
RICHFIELD—Meadow Links Golf Pavilion kicks off a series of family-friendly concerts at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 10 with banjo virtuoso Drew French, a former U.S. Open National Banjo Champion and concert violinist. French will also speak briefly about his original renditions of early jazz on vintage banjos. Concerts will continue on Mondays in July and August, rain or shine, at 476 County Road 27. All concerts are expected to be about 75 minutes in length.
Cooperstown Sets NY Forward Open House
COOPERSTOWN—The Village of Cooperstown will host a public open house on the New York Forward Planning Process from noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11. It will take place in the Cooperstown High School gymnasium, 39 Linden Avenue. Residents are invited to learn about the grant process and share their own ideas for revitalizing downtown Cooperstown.
Bassett To Offer Cancer Support Group
OTSEGO COUNTY—The Bassett Cancer Institute will offer convenient, free monthly cancer support groups on Zoom beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12. Anyone with a cancer diagnosis—newly diagnosed, in treatment or survivors—is invited to give and receive support, reduce stress, and learn from others who have faced similar situations. Helios Care Announces July Restaurant Partners
ONEONTA—Helios Care announced that it has partnered with several new restaurants for its “Dine Out for a Cause” campaign in July and August. During these events, a portion of the day’s proceeds at the host restaurant will be donated to Helios. Grapevine Farms, a lunch bistro on Route 7 in Cobleskill, will host on Thursday, July 13. The Lakehouse Restaurant in Richfield—one of the oldest continually operating restaurants in Upstate New York—will host at their Sunday brunch on July 16 and August 27.
Schenevus to Host Fireman’s Carnival
SCHENEVUS—The Schenevus Fireman’s Carnival will offer live entertainment, food, rides and activities from Thursday, July 13 through Saturday, July 15. The Roadhouse Rockers will perform from 7-11 p.m. on Thursday. All rides will be free to children under 10 on Thursday, while tickets last. Scattered Flurries will perform at 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by fireworks at dusk. There will be a Chinese auction at 11 a.m. on Saturday and a chicken barbeque at noon. The carnival parade will begin at 6 p.m., and the Jason Wicks Band will play from 7:30-11 p.m. This event is sponsored by the Schenevus Valley Masonic Lodge.
Cancer Screening Coach To Visit Walton
WALTON—The Bassett Cancer Services Program of the Central Region will visit Walton with the screening mobile coach from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 13. CSP will offer free mammograms, breast exams, pelvic exams, Pap tests and HPV tests will be available to uninsured and underinsured individuals ages 40 and over. Take-home colorectal cancer screening kits will be available to eligible individuals 45 and older. Insurance is also accepted. Call (888) 345-0225 to check eligibility and make an appointment. The mobile coach will be parked at Walton High School, 47-49 Stockton Avenue. CSP provides breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer screenings and diagnostic services at no cost to people who live in New York, do not have health insurance or have prohibitively high insurance cost shares, and meet age requirements.
