Plans ‘Open Mic’ In Oneonta

transgendersymbolONEONTA – A new statewide task force has scheduled a Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Town Hall meeting Friday evening at the Universalist Unitarian Church at 12 Ford Ave. A meet and greet is 5:30-6 p.m., followed by an event that include an “open mic” portion.

“We are on a fact-finding mission to better understand the needs of our communities – spanning from Buffalo to Long Island,” said Task Force member Juli Grey-Owens in a press announcement distributed a few minutes ago.

The purpose of these Town Hall gatherings is to bring together transgender and gender non-conforming people, their family, friends, and allies to create connections with the various communities around New York State, said Grey-Owes.

The “open mic” process will help clarify firsthand what the needs of our community members are and hopefully spark interest in advocacy work so they may engage in education and outreach.

This will not be an immediate problem solving session. Rather, the information we gather will allow state advocates to create a comprehensive legislative agenda, as well as direct the work needed to create a social movement in New York State which will achieve public understanding and support for full equality for the Transgender & Gender Non-Conforming communities.
