NYSEG Team On Alert
To Tackle Storm Harper
ONEONTA – NYSEG’s Oneonta Division, which includes all of Otsego County, is one of five divisions the utility is monitoring closely with Storm Harper’s “significant snowfall and a wintry mix of precipitation” predicted to begin by 1 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).
“Snow accumulation could bring tree limbs into contact with power lines or make for hazardous travel conditions,” NYSEG said in a press release. The other divisions extend from Brewster in the lower Hudson Valley to Plattsburgh, near the Canadian border.
NYSEG’s storm readiness teams are preparing crews and equipment and securing additional resources to respond to downed power lines and potential power interruptions. In addition to company crews, the companies have secured additional contract line and tree resources to respond to any emergencies and restore service.
If you become aware of any downed lines, please call 1-800-572-1131.
Repairs are first made to the backbone of the electricity system – transmission lines and substations, the company said. This is followed by repairs to poles and power lines along streets and roads, with those involving the greatest number of customers dealt with fist.
As part of this process, the companies take into account the needs of hospitals, nursing homes, fire and police stations, as well as any other “critical infrastructure,” the company said.
Be safe be out there
This is a great idea!
Please inform me if the electric goes out so that I can try to get help for my 90+ year old parents at 138 Old State Road, Unadilla NY. Good luck, be safe and thank you for all you do.
