Oneonta Streets Clear,

Mayor Herzig Reports

ONEONTA – The city’s streets are open and passable, Mayor Gary Herzig reported a few minutes ago, after city crews cleared streets overnight through mid-afternoon today.

Drivers are urged to use caution as snowbanks are, in some cases, obstructing vision and causing streets to become narrow.

“I thank our crews for their hard work during the past 12 hours in keeping Oneonta’s streets open,” said Herzig.  “I ask those residents living near an intersection to clear access from the sidewalk to the crosswalks if they are physically able to do so. City crews will help with these after all plowing has been completed.”

City crews will resume work at 4 a.m. tomorrow, when they will focus on further clearing downtown parking lots, parking lanes, and Wilber and Neahwa Park roadways, preparing for Friday evening’s opening of Neahwa’s Festival of Lights.

Residents are reminded to check any low level furnace exhausts to make certain they are not blocked by snow which could cause exhaust to backup into homes and furnaces to malfunction. Please report any concerns or storm related problems to dpsinfo@oneonta.ny.us or (607) 432-2100.

“This year would not be complete without one last challenge. But like Rocky the Owl, we are resilient and are getting through it.”
