ONEONTA – Oneonta Police arrested a brother and sister after surveillance footage allegedly shows them taking a laptop and a phone from a room at Hillside Commons.

Yarmenis Maldonado, 20 and her brother, Joshua Maldonado, 21, both of Bronx, were arrested after police met with a 21 year old female who told them that the two had taken her $1,700 laptop and cell phone.  Security footage from the Commons allegedly shows the Maldonados walking out of her room with the laptop and phone.

Upon talking to the suspects, police allege they were uncooperative, and that Mr. Maldonado threatened to “find and hurt” the victim. According to police, Ms. Maldonado refused to offer any personal information regarding the arrest.

Ms. Maldonado was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, a class C felony, Petit Larceny, a class A misdemeanor and Obstruction of Governmental Administration, a class A misdemeanor. If convicted, she faces 27 years incarceration.

Mr. Maldonado was also charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, as well as Grand Larceny in the fourth degree, a class C felony and Intimidating a Victim or Witness in the third degree, a class E felony. If convicted of all charges, he faces 54 years incarceration.

  1. Footage didn’t show what article claims. Sentencing is also wrong. This article is misleading and false. Also incriminating to Ms.maldonado who served only a week and only because of an order of protection.
