ONEONTA – A Rochester man was arrested Saturday night for allegedly assaulting a bouncer and the city police officer who attempted to break up a fight.

Divonte L. Geiger, 20, was denied entry to the Sip & Sail Tavern, 80 Water St., when he failed to produce proper identification.

Police said he became belligerent and punched the bar’s bouncer, then an officer attempting to take him into custody.

He tried to run away, police said, and another physical confrontation occurred, wherein the officer suffered minor injuries.

Geiger was arrested and charged with the class D Felony of Assault in the second degree and the class A misdemeanors of Resisting Arrest and Forcible Touching.  He was also charged with two violations for Trespass and Public Fighting.

If convicted of all charges, he faces up to 17 years incarceration.
