PRIESTS OF ABUSE

42 Cases In Diocese Include 2 Locally

This is the cover of the report on sexual abuse in the Albany Diocese released today.

ALBANY – A few minutes ago a group of attorneys, Lawyers Helping Survivors of Child Sex Abuse, released a report, “Hidden Disgrace III,” containing the names of 42 priests in the Albany Diocese accused of child sex abuse.

The report provides information about the allegations of abuse and the churches and schools where the priests worked.  Two priests named served in Otsego County, both of whom are now deceased.

Father Carl Stone, who died in 2006, served in Edmeston and Morris.    The allegations date to the 1980s and involve accusations in Colonie.

Father Louis Douglas, who died in 2001, served in Oneonta.   The allegations date back to the 1970s in Cortona and in Delaware County.

“It’s shocking that there are more than 40 alleged sexually abusive priests in the Albany area and the Diocese has been virtually silent about what happened and where they worked,” said attorney Jerry Kristal, of Weitz & Luxenberg.

“This information needs to be known by the public. Instead of keeping quiet, the Diocese should focus more on protecting children and helping those who have been abused by releasing comprehensive information about these priests and holding them accountable for the trauma they have caused.”
