Ronald S. Songdale, 86

March 19, 1934-Jan. 5, 2021

ONEONTA – Ronald S. Songdale, 86, passed away Jan. 5, 2021, at Chestnut Park Nursing Home in Oneonta.

He was born March 19, 1934, in Oneonta, the son of Peter and Violet (Sterling) Songdale.

Ron was a Air Force veteran, serving in 1952-1956.  He was a member of the Oneonta Vets Club and the Moose Lodge.

Ron was employed as a manager at Williams Furniture Store, Oneonta, for 30 years.  He also worked in security and as a greeter at the Oneonta Walmart for 16 years.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey S. Songdale and fiancée, Penny Carey, of Morris; his sister, Sylvia Quartier, of Florida; a niece, Kim; and his dear friend, Marie Laterra of Oneonta.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Peter Songdale.

A private graveside service will take place at the West Oneonta Cemetery.

Killer Knapp Dies In Prison; Guilty In SUNY Coed’s Death ONEONTA – Ricky Knapp, the man convicted of the 1977 death of SUNY Oneonta student, has died in Mohawk Correctional Facility, according to prison records. Knapp, 66, died March 8, having served 40 years of a 25-to-life sentence for a 1978 manslaughter conviction in the death of 18-year-old Linda Velzy, a SUNY student from Long Island. According to reports, Velzy was last seen Dec. 9 1977, hitchhiking in downtown Oneonta.…
