IN MEMORIAM: Ruth Ellis, 87;
Longtime CNA At The Meadows
CHERRY VALLEY – Ruth Ellis, 87, a CNA at Otsego County’s Meadows nursing home for many years, passed away peacefully on Jan. 22, 2020.
She was born on Aug. 26, 1932, in Paterson, N.J., to Phillip and Ruth (Nee DeYoung) Meye. She married the love of her life, Maurice Ellis, on July 11, 1953.
In 1973, they moved to Cherry Valley, where she worked at The Meadows until retirement as a certified nursing assistant.
Maurice, her loving husband of 43 years, predeceased her in 1995.
Ruth is survived by her five children: “Maurice” David, Roger Kim, Barry Keith, Karen Ruth “Hogan” and Kenneth Wayne; two sisters, Evelyn DiGiaimo and Frances Radino; two brothers, Phillip and Dale Meyer; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
She loved to sew and make her own curtains and clothing. She also loved caring and helping people.
The visitation is 10 a.m.-noon on Monday, Jan. 27, with services at noon at Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating.
The burial will be announced at a later date due to winter conditions.
In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to be made in her name to Bassett Cancer Institute located at 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
