Tax Abatements Will Be Considered
To Repair Deteriorating City Homes
ONEONTA – Common Council, meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, will consider adopting a local law providing tax abatement to those seeking to rehabilitate deteriorating housing in the city.
Local regulation was enabled by a state law, initiated by Mayor Dick Miller, that was shepherded through the state Legislature by state Sen. Jim Seward, R-Milford, and signed by Governor Cuomo.
The proposal was an outgrowth of Mayor Miller’s 2012 Housing Summit that learned there are more than 100 empty homes in the city’s center.
Also at that meeting, council is scheduled to approve the 2015 city budget, City Manager Martin Murphy’s first.
