Thomas Blau Jr., Schuyler Lake,

Retired County Probation Chief

Retired since 1994, thomas Blau enjoyed horse-racing and the New York Yankees.

SCHUYLER LAKE – Thomas Blau Jr. of Schuyler Lake, retired director of the Otsego County Department of Probation, died peacefully at home on June 25, 2019, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Union City, N.J., on Aug. 13, 1931, to Thomas Sr. and Anna Blau.

Tom grew up in Rockville Centre, L.I., and attended Saint Paul’s School, Garden City. He received his bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry from the University of Maine in 1954.

He served in the Army from August 1954 to July 1956.

Tom moved to Schuyler Lake in 1962, and worked for Otsego County until 1994, when he retired as director of the Probation Department.

Tom will be remembered for his love of his family and his animals. He was rarely seen without his pipe containing Prince Albert and always enjoyed a daily gin & tonic. He loved horse racing, daily lottery tickets, and Yankees baseball on Channel 631, but most of all he loved his farm and being with his kids.

Tom is survived by his three children, son Thomas III and wife Patricia; daughter Jennifer and husband Daniel Landers, and daughter Deborah and husband Todd Justine; grandchildren Thomas IV (Samantha), Erin (Clayton), Kristen (Ben), Ryan, John Chapman V (Savanna), Madison ”You’re Gorgeous” Landers and Savanah (Ruben), and great-grandchildren Ella and Claudia Blau, Landon and  Skyler Chapman, Silas and Mia.

Tom’s family has chosen the Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley, NY. for his care. Per our father’s wishes, services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care (www.cahpc.org) or 607-432-5525
