ONEONTA – Discussion on City Manager Martin Murphy’s severance contract has been renewed in a dispute over sick days and pension, and may be discussed in executive session following this evening’s Common Council meeting.

Council member Bob Brzozowski, a member of the council’s Finance, Technology & Operations Committee, said a few minutes ago that the $5,900 included in the severance contract does not credit Murphy for all the sick days he didn’t use.

Also, Murphy has raised a question about whether the severance package requires the city to pay into his pension, Brzozowski said.

The contract was prepared by City Attorney David Merzig and HR Director Kathy Wolverton, who is also an attorney. It was approved by Common Council at a special meeting July 24, and signed by both then-acting mayor Maureen Hennessy and Murphy.

“What I want, as I hope every Council member does, is to do right by Martin and by the city,” Brzozowski said.
